Mr. Chandler presented on behalf of junior firefighter Eric Hammond and described the department's junior firefighter program, which began in 2021 and is designed to prepare students for eventual full membership.
"When Eric was old enough, he was able to join in 2024 and is exemplified, community service by serving as a junior firefighter," Speaker 11 said, explaining that juniors receive internal training so they can transition to full firefighter status. Speaker 11 noted Eric will be eligible to ride and become a full member upon turning 18 on July 2.
The presenter said the program has produced several full members and that six current juniors are GCS students, framing the initiative as a successful pipeline from student volunteers into community emergency services. Board members thanked the presenters and the student for their service; no formal personnel action accompanied this recognition during the meeting.
