Cindy Becker, Jewell County health administrator, reported billing and outreach gains at the July 28 office-head meeting. Becker said staff had "resubmitted 90 claims that were originally denied" and that "Jenny Scarrow was able to get money for 45 claims that were previously written off and she is still working on 23 other claims." The department also plans a booth at the county back-to-school event on July 29.
Becker told commissioners the department received the All-Hands-on-Deck grant through 2026 and the Kansas Suicide Prevention grant and has been updating CPT and diagnosis codes and mailing statements twice monthly to improve collections. She also reported two Pawnee Mental Health telehealth sessions and that the Health Department donated a sunscreen station to the Mankato City Pool as part of outreach.
This reporting came during the office-head portion of the Jewell County Commissioners meeting. The department’s work on denied claims and the new grants were presented as operational updates; the minutes do not record additional fiscal actions tied directly to these grants.
