Public works reports dredging progress and sets Lift Station 224 operational timeline

Public Works Director Ackerbla said the city's canal dredging is proceeding “very efficiently and quickly,” with work on Canal Botello expected to finish by the end of the day and a post-survey scheduled with Kimberly Horn on Thursday.
Ackerbla said crews will then stage work on Canal Saint Helena at Northeast 24th Avenue and explained the contractor has adjusted staging locations to secure resident access. He added that Lift Station 224, being completed in coordination with Broward County and contractor Trio, has its MOT and bypass set up and will undergo testing before permanent repairs commence. “They've been setting up their bypass system, which should be completely operational and tested tomorrow,” Ackerbla said.
Commissioners pressed for schedule clarity; staff said start-up and testing are expected in late January 2025 with full landscaping, paving and striping targeted for March 2025. The discussion noted the city previously had fewer complaints about the dredging and that work has been less intrusive than past operations. The commission did not take further action on the update.
