Councilman Uyehara provided an overview of Pitman's public-safety activities during the Feb. 10 meeting. He said the Fire Department handled multiple calls with no significant fires and estimated fire loss for the month at $2,500. The department staffed stations during winter storms, conducted an ice-rescue drill, and enrolled seven recruits in Firefighter I training; annual compliance and officer development training was also assigned.
On police matters, Uyehara listed training completed and scheduled — including monthly SWAT training, FTO certification (Feb. 3–5), Ultimate Report Writing (Feb. 11), and Calibre Press Street Survival (Feb. 19–20) — and said the department is arranging 'Simunition' training for later in 2025. He reported that officers who completed 2024 relicensure were approved for an additional three years by the New Jersey Police Training Commission and that relicensure preparations for 2025 are underway; he also noted attendance at a Bowman Company budget seminar and said auditor Evan Palmer was optimistic about completing the budget on time.
