Officials warn easement signers or risk condemnation for storm sewer work
Summary
Township staff said six private‑property easements (five permanent, one temporary) are required for the storm sewer work and described a 30‑day signature window, a 10‑day follow up and referral to legal action leading to condemnation if owners do not sign.

The outgoing director of sewer explained the need for several private‑property storm sewer easements and the process for acquiring them, saying permanent easements "need to be recorded at the courthouse because they're in forever perpetuity" and noting notary service is available at the township building. He said property owners will be provided easement documents and have 30 days to sign, followed by a 10‑day reminder.
When owners do not return signed permanent easements, the director said the township will escalate the matter to legal counsel and pursue condemnation to obtain the required rights. "...and if it's not signed after that, then we do have to prefer it to legal because the project is required, and it will be a condemnation," he said. Staff emphasized that most easement needs relate to enabling the storm sewer alignment and occasional lateral relocations where existing private sewer lines conflict with the new pipe.
