Board approves Rettler-managed project to replace turf, resurface track

The Committee of the Whole moved to recommend a contract with Rettler to manage replacement of the district’s athletic turf and to oversee resurfacing and repairs for other fields. Administration said the company had built the complex previously and can leverage existing plans to reduce duplication of work.
"Originally, we were looking at an 8.5 percent of total project, with a $12,000 lump sum. We've negotiated that down to 6.5 percent and a $10,000 lump sum," said David Deon, who outlined the scope and savings from using a project manager familiar with prior work. Deon said Rettler can consolidate bidding and coordinate multiple field projects to reduce schedule conflicts and improve competitive pricing.
Board members asked about turf selection, local workforce participation and the project schedule. Deon said the district would set material and installer requirements and would not be locked into a single turf product; the installation crew could install different turf systems if selected. The administration said bids are expected to be opened in October–November to align other district schedules and that the work is planned to avoid impacts on the next season.
The motion to approve the recommendation was made and seconded on the floor and passed by voice vote; the board recorded aye votes and signified the motion carried. The Committee will forward the recommendation for final approval at the regular board meeting on Aug. 10, 2026.
