Commissioners voted to authorize Work Order #19 with Kimley-Horn Associates for design services related to Priority Area 1 identified in the city’s stormwater master plan. Staff said the work order covers survey and schematic design, drainage and hydraulic analysis, permitting and bond construction plans, and assistance through competitive bidding.
The staff presentation listed a base design cost of $235,570 and a 5% contingency of $11,778.50, bringing the total recommended authorization to $247,348.50 from the stormwater fund. The commission approved the expenditure and authorized appropriate city officials to execute the contract; the motion passed 5-0. Staff indicated the area addresses recurring drainage complaints and said preliminary work on an adjacent ditch will save construction costs during implementation.
The project boundaries were described as lying between Southeast 15th Street and Northeast 52nd/53rd Streets, with construction to take place along Northeast 53rd Court and Northeast 53rd Street. Staff said the priority ranking stemmed from resident complaints and observed drainage failures during recent heavy rains.
