Mayor asks commission to consider purchase of parcel adjacent to city property; special meeting scheduled

Mayor Kyle Van Buskirk told commissioners that a parcel at 2230 Northeast 38th Street, contiguous with existing city property, has become available and that acquiring it would allow the city options for future use. He proposed financing a purchase from the city’s contingency fund and asked the commission to meet promptly to review details and potentially act.
"There's a property for sale in the city that's contiguous with current city property, 2230 Northeast 38th Street, which is right behind us. The opportunity has come and arisen that, I believe that we should acquire that property, for future use," the mayor said, asking staff to advertise a special meeting. Commissioners agreed to convene a special commission meeting at 1:45 p.m. on Friday the 13th to discuss acquisition details; a motion to schedule the meeting passed unanimously. Staff said required advertisement and notice would be handled immediately so the meeting could proceed as planned.
The special meeting will allow commissioners to review appraisal and funding options and to consider a resolution or purchase authorization if the city wishes to proceed. No acquisition decision was made at the Dec. 10 meeting; the commission only set the special meeting to consider next steps.
