Lighthouse Point readies staff and services as Hurricane Milton approaches

City administration told the commission on Oct. 8 that emergency preparations are underway as Hurricane Milton tracks toward Broward County.

"Broward County is projecting that we're going to receive tropical force winds, in the 50 to 60 mile an hour range, probably late Wednesday, early Thursday," the city administrator told the commission, urging residents to prepare and describing staffing plans. The city said it would supplement police, fire and public‑works staffing, and that nonessential city operations would likely be reduced; the library was identified as a potential FEMA assistance location.

Staff asked residents to secure loose items, avoid driving through standing water and be mindful of downed lines. The commission also noted utility and drainage teams are actively monitoring canals and drains and that the city has been running daily briefings with Broward County Emergency Management.

The administration said it will keep the commission and the public informed, and confirmed the city intends to be open for limited operations the day before the worst impacts and to resume normal hours when safe.
