Pitman hears Armory remediation update; council eyes sale of roughly 1.59‑acre parcel

Councilman Fitzpatrick told the work session that he had met with Justin Milillo of the New Jersey Division of Military and Veterans Affairs to review remediation on the Armory property. Fitzpatrick said the presentation highlighted remediation progress and a suggested subdivision that would yield "approximately 1.59 acres of usable space, and would include the front portion of the property where the current buildings are located." He said wetland buffers and green‑space requirements limit development beyond the existing structures and that permissions would need to preserve right of entry for future maintenance and testing of the unsold area.
Fitzpatrick said the current Redevelopment Plan for the property (adopted in 2009) designates residential use, but he and others noted the parcel may be usable only for commercial space. Council members expressed interest in selling the subdivided parcel rather than holding it for borough use. The next step is to apply to the Planning & Zoning Board for subdivision approval; the council discussed waiting to see what offers arrive before amending any redevelopment plan.
