Bensenville approves new user charges: food-and-beverage, streaming amusement and EV-charging fees

Trustees approved several new user-focused revenue measures on Nov. 18: an ordinance to establish a places-for-eating tax (food and beverage), an amendment to the amusement tax that adds a 5% streaming/subscription charge, and an ordinance creating a fee for use of village-owned electric vehicle charging stations.
Finance Director Lisa explained the places-for-eating tax targets food prepared for immediate consumption at premises with seating or drive-through service and will not tax prepackaged grocery items. On the amusement tax, she said the streaming charge applies to subscription services per provider on a monthly basis. For EV charging, staff said the fee is designed to recover electricity, equipment upkeep and service costs so nonusers are not subsidizing the service.
