Council OKs Conveyance of Small Parcel for County Culvert Work on Spotswood Englishtown Road

Monroe Township on Aug. 3 approved an ordinance conveying a small portion of township-owned property along Spotswood Englishtown Road (Block 54, Lot 5.04) to Middlesex County for culvert and roadway work.
A resident asked whether the parcel is currently township-owned and whether the county would use eminent domain; staff replied the municipality has owned the property since 11/07/1990, and the county is negotiating to acquire a narrow sliver (approximately 100 square feet) rather than condemning the property. Staff described the conveyance as limited to what the county requested to enable the culvert improvement project.
The ordinance passed on roll call following the public hearing.
