Board members urge clarity: iReady, M-STEP and SAT measure different things

Several trustees noted that I-Ready often shows earlier changes in performance while M-STEP lags, and proposed either separate targets (one for I-Ready, another for M-STEP/PSAT/SAT) or a goal-range for each band. Presenters said the draft packet used a simple spring-percent aggregation for the example percentages but that the board can choose a different calculation method.
Trustees asked staff to return with clearer labeling and explanation for any public-facing dashboard so readers can tell whether numbers represent proficiency of all students, percent changes year-to-year, or only the ‘green’ proficiency band. No final decision was made; staff will revise language and examples and bring detailed KPI calculations to upcoming work sessions.
