Bensenville approves master license to bring fiber‑to‑the‑home; hires engineering reviewer

The Village of Bensenville voted unanimously Feb. 24 to approve a master license agreement with EZ Fiber to install fiber‑to‑the‑home service to residential properties. Staff described the project as a multiyear, mostly underground build that could deliver 1–3 gigabit service to homes; the license requires securities, permit review fees and specific limits on right‑of‑way use to protect village pavement and underground utilities.
To manage plan review and construction oversight staff recommended hiring Michael Baker International under a not‑to‑exceed agreement of $75,000 to review submittals, provide construction observation and support resident communications; staff said those costs will be paid from EZ Fiber's permit review fees rather than general tax dollars. "This is fiber to the home... we're looking at EZ Fiber putting in fiber to the home for every residential property here in Bensenville," staff said during the discussion. The board approved both the license agreement and the engineering contract.
