During public comment at the June 3 Village of Stronghurst meeting, guest Randy Jarvis reported an ongoing feral cat issue in town. Mayor Brendan Schaley told Jarvis that "there isn’t anything the village can do, but you may do what you please on your property," according to the minutes.
Guest Shirley Linder presented photographs showing trash that had been thrown into the village dump. Employee Ronnie Gittings told the board the public works crew were already aware of the problem and that Police Chief Vancil had contacted the people responsible, according to the clerk’s record.
The minutes do not record any formal action or ordinance in response; the board did not vote on an enforcement measure during the meeting. Staff indicated they had taken informal steps on the dumping complaint and advised residents to use private remedies for the feral-cat problem.
