Board approves conditional reinstatements for three students after committee recommendation

The board accepted the reinstatement committee's recommendations and approved conditional reinstatements for three students in separate votes on Sept. 23. A representative from the reinstatement committee outlined the options for each case — conditional reinstatement, unconditional reinstatement, or denial — and each motion to accept the committee's conditional-reinstatement recommendation was seconded and approved on roll-call votes.

One board member acknowledged the work of the panel and administrative staff: "Thank you for the board members that were on the panel, as well as all the other team that went into creating the packets and helping with context and information," and the board proceeded to vote. The board and legal counsel reiterated that while public elements of committee motions are disclosable, material discussed in closed session remains confidential under the Open Meetings Act. The superintendent and staff offered to speak privately with a parent at the meeting who asked about documentation for a reinstatement petition.
