Board debates retention, summer school and targeted interventions after mixed test results

"Those conversations are often recommendations for summer school, recommendations for retention," a staff member said, noting the family frequently decides whether to accept retention.
Staff described the district’s tiered-intervention system, where tier 2 supports come from interventionists, IE time, enrichment blocks, and targeted summer programming by invitation. Board members repeatedly asked for data on how many retention recommendations were made and how often families declined; one board member requested staff provide those numbers in upcoming board briefs.
No policy change was adopted at the meeting; staff said they will return with data on retention recommendations, summer program participation and related intervention outcomes.
