East Orange Board hears PrEP restart; physician assigned and initial enrollments expected

The Health Department has begun reestablishing its PrEP program, Director Valencia Maponya told the Board. She said a physician, Dr. Hoskins, who already works with the department's STD program, agreed to manage PrEP prescribing and could make the program operational quickly.
Maponya said the nurse practitioner had lacked prescriptive privileges when she arrived, which delayed earlier implementation. "The program had already started and mentioned that they had about four or five people ready to enroll," Maponya said. She described plans for interventions to increase enrollment and outreach to promote the service in the community.
Board members asked why the program had not launched sooner and pressed for clarity on scope and staffing; Maponya said bringing the program back into compliance and assigning Dr. Hoskins addressed the key barriers.
