Board hears compliance problems on state lead grant while federal remediation continues

Director Valencia Maponya told the Board the city is managing multiple lead-remediation grants with different scopes and timelines. She said the state Healthy Homes grant—reported at $2.3 million—had fallen out of compliance and was intended to remediate 14 housing units, with a scheduled end date in December. A larger federal program, which Maponya said she referred to for convenience as the HUD-related federal program, was valued at about $4.8 million and intended to remediate 87 units by the following September.

Maponya said the department was working to bring the state program back into compliance and to maintain the federal program's reporting and remediation activities. President Christine Harris asked about reapplying for funding in the future; Maponya said the Health Department would seek opportunities to reapply when funds become available. "The state program, which had a budget of $2.3 million, had gone out of compliance," Maponya said, and staff were taking steps to correct that status.

Board members asked for clarification on unit counts and timelines; Maponya provided the numbers cited above and confirmed the state grant's December end date and the federal program's September completion date. She said the department would pursue future applications as appropriate and would report back on compliance progress.
