Staff explained the district's standard charges for transportation: "field trips in our school district, is $35 per hour for the bus driver. $4 a mile that covers the fuel and wear and tear on the bus. And then there's 0.5 an hour charge, for tuning and tuning the bus." Board members said PTOs often fund trips when fundraising allows and that the district only directly covers the 4th-grade state-capital trip under current practice.
Members asked staff to clarify the number of trips the district subsidizes versus those that rely on PTOs and to return a breakdown of how grants or Title I allocations could cover transportation costs for eligible programs. No motion or vote occurred during the work session.
