Road commissioner outlines VTrans culvert work, recommends gate and postings

The Selectboard received a detailed roads update focused on culvert projects and grant paperwork. The road commissioner said she will complete and submit the Town Road & Bridges Standards and the 2025 Town Highways Annual Financial Plan to the state, and described site-specific work with VTrans on a Better Roads culvert project near the south end of West Shore Road and a Grants-in-Aid culvert at the New and West Shore Roads intersection. She reported that VTrans agreed to come in person to assess field conditions and may modify scopes of work; for one site the agency recommended adding a cement header or shot rock.

The commissioner recommended several operational steps: readying the Stump Dump and installing a locked gate (funded in the 2025 highway budget), posting roads for truck weight limits, inspecting culverts at flood-risk locations, building a contractor reference file for pricing, and using simple photo equipment and Google Earth Pro for elevation checks and grant documentation. The minutes record that the road commissioner will finalize scopes once weather allows and will contact a contractor to push back snow where culverts need drainage.
