Staff outlines DDA sidewalk-mural plan and requests maintenance data for installation

City staff provided an update on a DDA-led sidewalk mural (“Ashley” design) and its installation route, and said the artist is preparing maintenance guidance and the DDA can share paint and primer information. The mural route described by staff runs from the northeast stairwell of the Ashley parking structure along Miller and Catherine, turns left into Detroit Street and ends at the south end of the Farmer's Market.
Staff (Chris) said the DDA collects visit and crash data but does not plan a formal before/after analysis; commissioners asked whether the commission could request data monitoring to evaluate whether the mural affects pedestrian or traffic safety. “They don't have plan to analyze the before and after impact of the installation, but they can monitor the data to see if any pattern does develop,” Chris said and agreed to follow up with the DDA and report back at the next meeting.
Staff also confirmed that the 4th Avenue parking-structure artwork will be fabricated on flex facade panels and that installation is likely to follow street-construction completion by roughly 12–18 months (installation likely in the 2027 construction season).
