The Veribest Independent School District Board of Trustees voted 5–0 on Aug. 14, 2025, to adopt a proposed Maintenance and Operation (M&O) tax rate of $0.7366 and a proposed Interest and Sinking (I&S) tax rate of $0.492288, for a combined proposed rate of $1.22888 for the 2025–26 school year.
Board President Mark Kellermeier moved to adopt the proposed rates and was seconded by Trustee Thadd Martin. The board minutes record the motion as: "Mark Kellermeier moved to adopt a proposed M&O (Maintenance and Operation) tax rate of $0.7366 and a proposed I&S (Interest and Sinking) tax rate of $0.492288 for a total tax rate of $1.22888; Thadd Martin seconded; motion passed 5/0." The five trustees listed as voting in favor were Mark Kellermeier, Dalena Freeman, Brady Bates, Tony Rojo and Thadd Martin; Mark Schwartz and Dan Reed were absent.
The M&O rate funds day-to-day operations of the district; the I&S rate covers debt service. The board also announced a public hearing on the Veribest ISD 2025–26 budget and tax rate set for Aug. 29, 2025, allowing residents a chance to comment before final adoption.
