Van ISD board recognizes students who qualified for area and All-State bands

Nick Moore, the high school band director, introduced and recognized six students who qualified for area and All-State band auditions, calling out their names and instruments and explaining how competitive the selection process is.
"My name is Nick Moore. I'm the high school band director," Moore told trustees before describing the multi-stage audition process that progresses from region to area and, for a few top performers, to All-State. He named Ethan Sanchez (freshman percussion), a freshman oboist identified in the transcript as "Charlie," Madison Richards (sophomore, clarinet), Jesse Sanchez (junior), Alexis Hart (senior, flute) and noted Lillian Marvel (junior, trumpet) was not present. Moore said two students attended the ATSSB All-State Band concert in San Antonio this year.
Moore emphasized the difficulty of the auditions and the rarity of freshman success: "I wanna point out that he's a freshman because when you audition for this, there is no freshman classification...so if you're a freshman and you beat a senior, you beat somebody that has been playing for literally twice as long as you have." He closed with praise for the students"So anyways, I'm real proud of all 6 of these kids."
The recognition came early in the meeting during the board's ceremonial items; trustees did not take formal action related to the music program at this meeting.
