Weslaco ISD honors elementary UIL champions and earns TEA Bluebonnet Beacon recognition

Trustees began the meeting with an extended awards and recognition segment honoring elementary UIL individual and team champions, choir and visual-arts winners, and the district's top elementary reader.
"These are students from across the district... we wanna say congratulations to all of our 1st place winners," said Mindy, who led the recognition and invited parents to stand. Staff singled out Camilla Rios, whose artwork was selected for the Texas Youth Art Month exhibition by First Lady Cecilia Abbott, and Dakota Caceres, who was introduced as the district's top elementary reader with 5,216,076 words read as part of Northbridge Elementary's Accelerated Reader program.
The board also announced a district award: the Texas Education Agency designated WISD a Bluebonnet Beacon district for its K–8 Bluebonnet math curriculum implementation. "As a result of this success, WISD will be proudly highlighted on the TEA Bluebonnet Beacon's website," the presenter said, noting the district earned a status badge and opportunities to share its practices statewide.
Trustees, district staff and families posed for photos and gave round‑of‑applause recognition. The honors segment concluded before the meeting moved to the budget public hearing.
