Public Works reported that Cermak Road and Harlem Avenue have been paved and marked and that fiber‑optic and traffic signal work is underway from York Road to Cicero Avenue, with temporary lane closures and ADA improvements. Director Ranieri said a fiber optic line and signal replacements are part of the project scope.
The Cermak Road Bridge refurbishment, located east of 1st Avenue spanning the Des Plaines River, is scheduled to begin May 4, 2026 (pending material availability) under a 55 working‑day IDOT contract. Work will include deck replacement using latex cement, hydroblasting, joint replacement, painting, asphalt surface replacement and lane thermoplastic markings. Construction is expected to be complete by November 2026, with staged lane closures during the work.
