At the Aug. 4 special meeting the Weathersfield Selectboard discussed the procedure for filling two mid-term vacancies and agreed to publicize openings and a timeline for applications and interviews.
Town Manager Brandon Gulnick described the statutory process under 24 V.S.A. 963 for filling vacancies that occur mid-term: once a notice of vacancy is approved, the town will publicize the posting, accept applications, and the board may interview applicants and vote to appoint at the next meeting. He proposed that letters of interest be due Aug. 20, 2026 by 4:30 p.m., and that the board review and possibly interview applicants at its regular meeting on Aug. 24, 2026. Ms. Henderson said the board may, in the interest of transparency, decide to conduct the entire process in open session.
Board members encouraged residents to apply and said no specific eligibility criteria would be required beyond an explanation from applicants about why they want to serve. The board authorized the advertisement and delegated signature authority to Vice Chair Rika Henderson to post the notice at the Ascutney and Perkinsville post offices, the library, Martin Memorial Hall, and on the town website.
