Selectboard accepts Michael Todds resignation; Todd says town "is clearly seeking different leadership"

The Weathersfield Selectboard on Aug. 4 accepted the resignation of Michael Todd, who said in a written statement that he did not have the time to serve during a transition the town is undergoing.

Ms. Henderson read Todds resignation into the record: "I hereby tender my resignation from the Selectboard effective immediately. It is important to recognize that the town is in a transition. Although there are many individuals encouraging me to lead us through this challenging time, I do not have the time to serve the town in a way I believe would be necessary during this process." The resignation was dated July 28, 2026. The board moved to accept the resignation "for his resignation, board recognition 8/4/26, with regret," with a motion by Joseph Bublat and second by Patience Bearse; the vote was unanimous.

Board members thanked Todd for his years of service. The board also discussed the statutory process for filling mid-term vacancies and set a timeline for recruitment and interviews: applications are to be due Aug. 20, 2026 at 4:30 p.m., with applicant review and possible interviews at the regular meeting on Aug. 24, 2026. Town Manager Brandon Gulnick told the board that, under 24 V.S.A. 963, once a notice of vacancy is approved the town will publicize it and may interview and appoint candidates at the next meeting.

Next steps: the board will publicize the vacancy and consider applicants at the Aug. 24 meeting; Ms. Henderson said the board may choose to conduct interviews in open session in the interest of transparency.
