The City Council voted Aug. 5 to continue the public hearing on a revised public‑art ordinance to Sept. 16 and directed staff to take the draft to the Cultural and Fine Arts Commission for input. A resident and former commission members urged more study and commission review; the mayor asked staff to return with projected revenue scenarios and likely art‑fund receipts under the proposed ordinance.
One commenter representing citizen work on the draft told the council, “We’ve done the work,” and urged careful consideration of public‑art opportunities across the city. Multiple council members said they preferred the additional commission review; one council member indicated support for proceeding if the commissions recommended it. The motion to continue was moved, seconded and approved unanimously by roll call.
