Council approves Cal Sag Trail payment, gazebo bid authorization and tree contract

During the Municipal Grounds and Property portion of the March 3 meeting, the council approved a $154,106.14 payment to the Illinois Department of Transportation for construction of a concrete paver parking lot, retention basin, drainage improvements and other required work on the Cal Sag Trail at Lake Katherine Nature Center.
The council also awarded the 2026 Tree Removal, Trimming & Stump Grinding bid to Homer Tree Care for $83,700.00 and authorized staff to go out to bid for the Memorial Park gazebo reconstruction. Alderman Heather Begley moved the items; the minutes record unanimous votes on each motion. "With seven (7) affirmative votes the Motion carried," the record states.
Alderman Begley noted that the fiber work referenced earlier "will be as most invasive as possible," indicating attention to construction impacts during related rights-of-way discussions.
