The Hardin County Commissioners Court voted unanimously on Aug. 4 to adopt the no-new-revenue tax rate of 0.481223 for tax year 2026. The chair reviewed the no-new-revenue, unadjusted and adjusted rates and asked for a motion to set the proposed rate at 0.481223; the court voted in favor with individual votes recorded during roll call.
During roll call the chair requested votes from each commissioner in turn; Commissioners Cook, Young, Kuykendahl and Cooper answered 'Yes' and the chair cast a 'Yes' vote. The chair described the adopted rate as "a little over 1.5¢ lower than our current 2025 tax rate" and noted the county has reduced its rate substantially from 58¢ in 2020.
The adoption starts the public-notice and hearing process required to finalize the budget and tax rate; the court scheduled a public hearing for Sept. 8.
