Village outlines 17th Avenue water-main replacement and Cermak Road bridge work

Trustee Chukrosi and public works staff gave a detailed update about planned water and bridge projects. "The 22 and 2300 blocks of 6 inch water main will be replaced with a 12 inch water main," the board was told; staff said services that do not meet EPA requirements and are composed of lead, steel, or iron will be replaced as part of the project.
On the bridge project, the board was told the Cermak Road bridge over the Des Plaines River is scheduled for refurbishment beginning 05/04/2026 under a 55-working-day contract with the Illinois Department of Transportation. "Throughout construction, traffic will reduce to a single lane for east and west travel, and this is expected to be completed in November 2026," the board heard. Village staff explained that IDOT right-of-way permits and MWRD approvals remain outstanding for some work and that staff will follow up with the board on permitting status.
