Staff seeks RFP for electrical distribution study; 7 MW from KMEA secured for September

Staff said all documentation with KMEA is in place to deliver 7 megawatts of additional power for Gardner City in September and that the city has the allocation on its first bill from the power provider. “KMEA, all the paperwork's been submitted for the enter or the electric rate study,” the staff member said, and indicated the city will begin an electric-rate study around Sept. 1.
Separately, staff said they are preparing an RFP for a comprehensive electrical distribution study to map the system, perform an arc‑flash analysis and identify upgrades (switchgear, bus work, pad and spacing) required to accommodate the new Substation 1 transformer; staff expects to present the RFP to the commission for approval.
