The Duncan Board of Education voted Sept. 9 to approve amendments to district Policy 4001 (Nondiscrimination) and Policy 4045 (Maternity Leave). The motion to approve was made by Krista Lolar and seconded by Greg Neal and passed 3-0 with two members absent.
The updated maternity-leave policy states that "eligible employees shall be entitled to six (6) weeks of paid maternity leave following the birth of the employee’s child," and says employees who qualify for state paid leave may extend their leave using accrued sick leave, for a combined total of up to 12 weeks when medically certified. The policy as adopted references state statute 70 O.S. §6-104.8 and directs that Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) leave run concurrently with the district’s paid and extended sick-leave provisions. The board packet shows the full revised policy text and the adoption date recorded as 09/09/2025.
Board members made no additional amendments on the floor. The nondiscrimination policy text in the packet reiterates the district’s commitment to prohibit discrimination on the basis of race, religion, sex, age, national origin, disability and other protected characteristics in all matters concerning staff, students and the public.
