Public commenter warns bridges may not support a hung sewer, urges pedestrian crossing study

During public comment a resident raised an engineering memo from a Volus Group employee copied to board members that questioned whether there is room to hang a sewer pipeline on local bridges and recommended investigation of pedestrian facilities. The commenter said the bridges are narrow, have little shoulder and that accommodating additional utilities or abutments could be costly.
“There's no room for a sewer pipeline on the bridge, and the loading packs of the sewer with the additional utilities and secure abutments will need to be investigated,” the commenter said, urging the subcommittee to ensure the matter is addressed in the draft or at a future meeting. Chair acknowledged the comment and the committee agreed to bring the issue to the project team.
Carrie, the Wallace Group representative, said she would review the referenced emails and verify whether that specific bridge analysis was included in the draft. The subcommittee did not make a determination about bridge attachment at the meeting and directed staff to investigate the feasibility, permitting and potential cost implications before recommending a preferred conveyance approach.
