Vicky Starr (Speaker 14) told the board the Housing Smart Committee spent months evaluating whether the town or a local nonprofit could acquire the SkyRise apartment complex to protect tenants from immediate rent increases. After due diligence the committee identified a maximum offer it deemed financially responsible; the seller accepted another bidder's higher offer and the committee's acquisition attempt ended.
Starr said the committee will begin outreach to seniors living next door at Sheyenne Dakin Village Apartments to offer tenant support if problems arise during the ownership transition. The committee also highlighted a CAP‑Pantry partnership to provide summer meals for youth programming enabled in part by a small Hudson Valley Foundation grant.
