Washington Green Team pursues Sustainable Jersey grant and community wildlife certification

Kristy Romanowski submitted a $10,000 PSEG Creative Placemaking grant application to Sustainable Jersey with a letter of support from Green Team Secretary Josephine Noone and a supporting resolution prepared by Borough Manager Brian Bond and approved by the Borough Council. As of the May 13 meeting, Kristy had not yet heard back from Sustainable Jersey.
The Green Team reported that Washington Borough currently has 19 certified National Wildlife Federation (NWF) wildlife habitats and needs 150 points to achieve community certification. Members discussed recruiting additional residents and businesses, distributing postcards and literature at the Municipal Building and library demonstration garden, and using upgraded landscaping at Veterans’ Park as part of the points toward certification. May applicants receive a 20% discount on certification fees.
