Southeast students place regionally; college awards nearly $125,000 in scholarships

Jake Griggs, representing Minnesota State College Southeast, told the board that CNC Machine Tool students Andrew Wolfe, Jay Tschumperlin and Joseph Gawarecki advanced to the regional final of the Project MFG competition and placed second in the region. He said the students "did an amazing job, placing second in their region, just shy of advancing to nationals."
Griggs also reported that Michael Stangler, a second-year Auto Body student, won first place in the Refinishing portion of the SkillsUSA Auto Body competition and has the option to compete at the national contest in June in Atlanta. The Southeast Foundation hosted scholarship and Phi Theta Kappa induction events this spring; nearly 200 scholarships totaling $125,000 were awarded this year, the report said.
College staff highlighted workforce training pathways, urged enrollment in filling programs such as welding and automotive, and encouraged donations to the college foundation to support future scholarships.
