JR Smith Park grading and wastewater clarifier excavation update

Staff reported that Sunbury public-works crews moved about 40 truckloads of fill from the wastewater treatment plant to JR Smith Park to facilitate grading ahead of vertical construction for a shelter house and splash pad. Staff said contractors moved additional truckloads and that much of the site work is underway, with plumbing for the splash pad beginning and excavation for foundations ongoing.
At the wastewater treatment plant, staff described a mass excavation for a new 70-foot-diameter clarifier (existing clarifiers are 45 feet in diameter) and said administrative building renovations are underway. The staff update indicated the JR Smith project remains on track for substantial completion by the end of October, with some interior shelter-house work to continue beyond that date.
