The Harlingen City Commission unanimously approved the appointment of Juan Antonio Nevarez as director of aviation for Valley International Airport on Aug. 5.
Airport board chair (Mister Gallaga) and airport board members described a competitive search that produced 30–40 applicants and recommended Nevarez, who said he brings more than two decades of airport leadership and existing FAA relationships. "I feel very confident moving forward that I can continue that relationship with them and bring that to Harlingen as well," Nevarez said when asked about his experience managing FAA matters.
Commissioners praised the board’s process and welcomed Nevarez; he told the commission his planned start date is "the Monday after Labor Day." The appointment passed without opposition and the commission recorded best wishes for his tenure.
