Richland County reports 1,000+ housing units in pipeline; Urban Meadows TIF and veteran housing advancing

Economic development presenters told commissioners the county's housing pipeline now includes more than 1,000 units across multiple projects and price points.
"Probably 1000 plus new units Yeah. Represented in all these projects in Akron," a presenter said while outlining market-rate, low-income, senior and veteran housing projects across the county. The presenters noted some projects are still in engineering or rezoning stages and that not all will necessarily be completed.
Specific projects discussed included Mill Iron veteran housing (the former Sprint building), which is undergoing rezoning; Urban Meadows in Belleville, which is moving into phases 2 and 3 after a sold-out phase 1; and the Clear Fork ski-area-adjacent project, where water and structural lines remain works in progress. Tom said the county received a quote for a TIF study for Urban Meadows to address village infrastructure expenses, repaving and flood issues and that a TIF proposal will likely be presented to the commissioners.
Speakers emphasized that infrastructure, annexation and careful local coordination will be needed to move many of these projects from planning to construction.
