Planning and Boundaries Director Steve Hogan presented two PAC options: a study of Area 5 elementaries (Eastwood, Morningside, Rosecrest, Oakridge, Cottonwood, Upland Terrace, Crestview, Oakwood, Driggs and Penn) that could include potential school closures, or an internal study year pausing closures. On a motion by Julie Jackson, seconded by Clarke Nelson, the board voted unanimously to proceed with the Area 5 study for 2025.
Julie Jackson summarized local input she had received from principals, teachers and parents and cited staffing projections: "Projections show that within these 9 schools they will have 15 fewer teachers next year." Board members discussed timing and community impacts, noting PTA volunteer capacity and IB program certification timing as factors the study should examine.
