Amanda Welsh, the Henderson‑Oxford Airport Manager, and David Thomas, the City’s representative on the Airport Authority board, presented data to the Council describing the airport’s economic contributions and urged continued municipal support.
Welsh emphasized everyday benefits including support for local restaurants, rental car companies, STEM educational exposure and aviation career opportunities for local students. Thomas presented economic data he said showed the Airport generates business revenue, jobs, personal income and tax contributions. Welsh also highlighted a recent $600,000 Golden Leaf grant for a water main necessary for growth and fire suppression and warned that decreased local support would limit the airport’s ability to secure matching grants.
Councilmembers asked whether jobs listed in state aviation reports are filled by Henderson residents; Welsh said state reports do not break job counts down by city. The presenters said the Airport operates under an original 1945 governing act and that they believe it remains aligned with modern standards; Manager Spruill confirmed the authority operates under the 1945 act.
