Seward board suspends public use of refurbished Old School House until ADA work completed

The Town Board adopted Resolution No. 20 (2025) on Nov. 10 to temporarily suspend procedures that would permit public use of the refurbished Old School House in the Seward hamlet along NY State Route 165 until the structure meets Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards. Councilman William Harlow offered the resolution, which the Board adopted on a 5–0 vote.
The resolution notes the building, constructed in the 1890s, was refurbished to preserve its historic character but does not meet ADA requirements; the Board directed that procedures allowing use by non-town employees be suspended until the structure is brought into compliance. A copy of the resolution will be placed in town records and the Town Procedures Book.
