Highway Superintendent Tony Kulesza reported work on the federal/state CHIPs paving and sealing program is ongoing: Suit Kote will return to finish the CHIPs seal on Lowe Road, and the towns of Carlisle and Sharon Springs assisted with CHIPs paving. Kulesza said one employee recently resigned and the highway department has hired a part-time employee to handle mowing and smaller tasks.
Kulesza urged the board to consider increasing retirement benefits or raising pay to attract and retain staff, noting turnover has affected capacity. He also flagged a maintenance expense: a tractor tire needs replacement at an estimated cost of $700 to $800. The board accepted the Highway Superintendent’s oral July 2025 report unanimously.
The board did not set new personnel policy at the meeting; members asked staff to continue recruiting and to include staffing and equipment needs in upcoming budget conversations.
