Board approves permit procedures for 118-foot bulkhead at 8C Pheasant Lane

The Shelter Island Town Board on Jan. 12 approved Resolution 2026-56, which deems the Gordon Thompson III Revocable Trust bulkhead application a Type II action under NYCRR 617.5 and authorizes the Town Clerk to issue a permit for replacement of 101 feet of face bulkhead, an 11-foot west return and a 6-foot east return (118 feet total). The project plans were prepared by KS Costello Marine Contracting Corp. dated June 12, 2025 and were approved by the NYSDEC on July 17, 2025.
The resolution conditions issuance on standard paperwork and insurance: the owner must file proof of at least $300,000 liability insurance for the location and operations, the contractor must hold a current Home Improvement Contractor’s License, and the contractor must provide an owner’s/contractor’s policy in favor of the Town with liability limits of at least $500,000. The permit must be completed within two years and is subject to any NYSDEC or Army Corps requirements.
