City of Sherrill outlines pool renovation timetable, seeks citizen input

City officials updated the commission on a proposed overhaul of the municipal pool and related facilities, saying the city is still waiting for a grant disbursement agreement (GDA) that must be in place before engineering procurement can begin. The official leading the presentation said the GDA will "basically govern the project" and that the city will issue a request for qualifications for engineers once the document is executed.
The presentation laid out the scope staff expect to include demolition and abatement, bathhouse renovations, a new storage facility, pool replacement and construction of a splash pad; staff projected an initial concept by late summer or early fall and said construction could begin in 2027 with substantial completion in fall 2027 and final completion in spring 2028. The official recommended appointing Jeremy Bridal to meet with staff and the pool committee as engineers develop designs, saying, "I would recommend that the commission consider appointing Jeremy Bridal," and noted staff are pursuing partnerships to reinstate swim lessons for 2027. During public comment, resident Ray Dubsky asked whether the pool committee will continue to be part of planning; staff replied that the selected engineer and any appointed representative would meet with the pool committee and bring feedback back to the commission.
The commission did not take a binding vote on project design or appointments at this meeting; staff said formal selection of an engineer and any subsequent design approvals will return to the commission when the RFQ process and conceptual plans are ready for review.
