The Sherrill City Commission voted to authorize the city’s share of costs for a community pool reconstruction and to issue up to $650,000 in bonds, subject to permissive referendum. City staff said the authorization is necessary to secure a state grant disbursement agreement and to ensure the city has working capital to start the project.
"The state will pay up to $2,600,000 total for the pool project, which is 80%," a city staff member said, adding that the state’s reimbursement will reduce the city’s borrowing need but not eliminate the requirement for local working capital. Staff also told the commission that some items listed in the grant award are mandatory (for example, a splash pad must be included) but that dollar amounts can be shifted among line items.
Commissioners moved and seconded the bond authorization, conducted a roll call and the measure passed. Staff outlined an optimistic schedule: design and engineering this year, bidding in late 2026 or early 2027, construction primarily in spring–fall 2027, and final touchups in early 2028.
