Superintendent Dr. Brian Doelger opened the Shelter Island Union Free School District’s 2025–26 Budget Workshop on Feb. 25 and reviewed the topics the administration will address during the budget process, including accomplishments, budget formation, district administration goals, co‑curricular activities, athletics, transportation, revenue, potential cuts and the tax impact.
Doelger reviewed the schedule for the remaining budget process: March 10, 2025 — Budget Overview and Adjustments; April 7, 2025 — Budget Adoption by the Board of Education; May 12, 2025 — Budget Hearing at a Board of Education meeting; and May 20, 2025 — Budget Vote, 12:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. in the school gymnasium. The board and administration will use these milestone meetings to refine the budget and present proposals to voters.
President Kathleen Lynch prefaced the workshop by reading the district mission and goals; she read the mission tagline "Engage, Explore, Empower." The board received no public questions at this meeting and was scheduled to resume budget work at the March 10 session.
