Board advances policies on procurement, school safety and AI; several policies cleared for first reading

At the Dec. 9 meeting the Board accepted program recommendations that included Committee on Special Education items and moved forward multiple policy items.
The Board approved second reading and possible adoption of Policy #5411 (Procurement of Goods and Services), Policy #5681 (School Safety Plans), Policy #5683 (Evacuation, Lockdown, and Emergency Dismissal Drills), Policy #5840 (Artificial Intelligence), and Policy #7220 (Graduation Requirements). In addition, the board conducted first readings of a broad set of policies covering board appointments, meeting rules, annual election business and public access to records.
Assistant Superintendent Jennifer Rylott and Superintendent Brian Doelger were present during the policy discussion; the motion to accept the program items passed and the minutes record the approval as unanimous. The policies approved at second reading will be reflected in future board documents and posted per district procedure.
